What Will Moving Actually Cost You Every Month?
I get this question a lot from people thinking about moving. "What's this actually going to cost me every month, compared to what I'm paying now?"
It's not really about the price of the house. It's about the whole picture, mortgage, taxes, condo fees if there are any, insurance, utilities, all of it stacked up next to what you're paying right now. Nobody budgets for snow removal until they own a driveway.
I built a quick tool to help with this. It lets you put your current costs next to a home you're considering and see the real difference, side by side. Try it out below.
A couple of things worth knowing. This is a cost comparison, not a mortgage pre-approval. If you want real numbers on what you'd qualify for, that's a conversation with a lender, and I'm happy to point you to a few good ones I trust.
Also, don't forget the stuff that doesn't show up on a listing. Higher property taxes in a different township. A condo fee that covers things your current place doesn't. A bigger lawn. Those add up fast and they're easy to miss when you're just looking at the sale price.
